A plain-language guide to online care

An offer can wait. A check comes first.

Question a missing prescription, a hidden pharmacy, or a sweeping promise.

Already have severe symptoms? Read urgent help Return to the starting point
Three separate paper folders connected to a shared starting point, showing that an offer needs to be identified.
Check what a claim actually proves.

The prescription

A prescription is part of the process.

US law says a prescription medicine may be supplied only after a valid prescription is in place. This rule was checked September 26, 2026.

The US drug agency, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), treats a missing prescription as a warning sign for online pharmacies.

A checkout page does not replace that prescription.

Research-only offers

Pause when a product carries a research label.

When weight-loss products bear research labels yet are promoted for human use, FDA urges people to avoid them. Their quality is unknown.

As of September 26, 2026, the agency says such products may harm health.

A seller may show a National Drug Code (NDC) number on a label or website. It identifies a product in a government list, not FDA approval.

Product claims

Approval claims need to match the product.

Compounded medicines made to meet a patient’s need have no FDA approval as of September 26, 2026.

A generic is an approved copy of a brand medicine.

FDA calls it misleading to describe a compounded medicine as a generic version of an approved medicine. Claiming it is proven to give the same results is also misleading.

Ask if the product is an approved medicine or a preparation that a pharmacy makes to order.

The price

A low price needs the other checks.

FDA’s pharmacy advice flags prices that look unrealistically low. This advice was checked September 17, 2026.

A real cash offer may be far below the list price, so the price on its own cannot settle the question.

Read a price alongside the prescription, licence, medicine name, and follow-up arrangements.

Check the names and licences

Urgent help

Seek urgent help when symptoms are severe.

A severe allergic reaction can become life-threatening.

MedlinePlus is a health resource from the US National Library of Medicine.

Signs on its list include difficulty swallowing or breathing, swelling of the tongue or face, and loss of consciousness (passing out).

Its guidance checked September 17, 2026 says to call 911 for severe symptoms of an allergic reaction or go to an emergency room.

These signs call for help. They cannot diagnose an allergy.
